"Give them wisdom and devotion in the ordering of their common life, that each may be to the other a strength in need, a counselor in perplexity, a comfort in sorrow, and a companion in joy." -- The Book of Common Prayer

Captin Zip and Violet
Kaity and Joe dressed up for the Fall Festival this year as Kaity's comic book characters, Captin Zip and Violet. Selah went as The Most Adorable Baby in the World. It was an easy costume. Jeff and I went as a happily married couple. Also not a far stretch.

Joe Pittard, Published Author
I had Joe write a story as part of his schoolwork this week. I told him no one would help him spell or anything -- he could just run free with it. I'll take a picture of it later (no batteries again!) but for now here's what he wrote ...
hey Joe hey Jon DO you wot To hav Fun yes. hey I no FooT BoL. GOOD sot
And he even illustrated it!

The Years Are Short
I don't really have anything new to tell you, but I had this adorable picture and wanted to share. Selah is definitely amping up the activity level. She's crawling all over the place and getting into whatever she can. She does have a concept of "no", though, and I can occasionally stop her by simply speaking. Not like her big brother, who at this age thought "no" meant "hurry up and stick that in your mouth before I take it away." She's eating real food three times a day now, along with still nursing three times per day. She's very petite, which she'll be quite glad of years down the road. I love feeding babies this age because they'll eat everything you put in front of them! At least my 3 have. It's not until they get about 18 months that it all goes downhill. Anyway, it's a lot of fun feeding a baby such healthful, nutritious meals. Selah loves tilapia, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, peas, grean beans, avocado, oatmeal, plums, bananas, apples, cheddar cubes, and lots more. It's hard to believe Kaity and Joe ate all those things once upon a time.

Good News/Bad News
The good news is, Jeff worked this past Monday, is working today, and works this Monday. The bad news is, Jeff worked this past Monday, etc. It'll be nice to have the money, but we miss him when he's not home.
Last night we had movie night, watching The Glenn Miller Story. The kids are very familiar with his music but have never seen the movie. Glenn Miller goes way back with us -- in fact, we'd been dating about 2 months when I gave Jeff tickets to the see the Glenn Miller Orchestra at the Imperial Theatre in Augusta for his 19th birthday. It was a great date that we still reminisce about. We saw them again a couple of years later at the Civic Center, shortly after Kaity was born. Joe requested Hot Cocoa while we watched the movie, so I made a batch.
Today the kids have spent most of the morning playing on the Wii, with Wii Sports. Selah is currently napping. I've had two cups of coffee. Life is good. :)

Double Digit Midget
My little Kaity Grace is ten now ... and it seems like yesterday that she arrived! From that tiny little baby to a girl who can clean the bathroom and does her own laundry. What a difference ten years makes!
We spent the weekend with my parents, and they helped make Kaity's birthday really special. Unfortunately Baba had to work all weekend, but we did get to see him Friday and Saturday nights. Friday night after we arrived, we had chocolate birthday cake, which the kids also had for breakfast. :) Kaity got to open her presents from Grammie and Baba and she was so excited to get an American Girl Just Like Me doll. Grammie also got a soccer outfit for "Ally Kate". Kaity named her doll by combining Grammie and Baba's middle names -- Allen and Lynnette. Saturday morning we girls went to get manicures and pedicures -- Selah just watched from her stroller. I could have taken a nap during my pedicure! It was very nice. We also went shopping at Bath and Body Works so I could get Kaity her present from Mommy and Daddy. She picked out a sweet vanilla-strawberry scent. The guys went to the Boshears SkyFest in Augusta for the day and really enjoyed themselves.
Saturday night Mom, Kaity, Selah and I went to a Chris Tomlin concert. He sang all our favorites. It was wonderful!

Handsome ...
"Then the man said, 'This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of man.' Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 1:23-24
"I have now been married (twelve) years. I know what it is to live entirely for and with what I love best on earth. I hold myself supremely blest -- blest beyond what language can express; because I am my husband's life as fully as he is mine. No woman was ever nearer to her mate than I am: ever more absolutely bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. I know no weariness of my (Jeff's) society: he knows none of mine, any more than we each do of the pulsation of the heart that beats in our separate bosoms; consequently, we are ever together. To be together is for us to be at once as free as in solitude, as gay as in company, but a more animated and an audible thinking. All my confidence is bestowed on him, all his confidence is devoted to me; we are precisely suited in character -- perfect concord is the result." -- Charlotte Bronte, in Jane Eyre

First Soccer Game
The big kids were beside themselves with excitement yesterday over their first soccer games of the season. Naturally my camera was not cooperating, so I was trying to snap pictures as quickly as possible before I lost all the power the batteries had.
Kaity especially wanted a picture with Joe that she could put in her soccer picture frame.

Dinner by Kaity and Joe
Just when I despair of the children ever eating well, they surprise me. I told them they could fix whatever they wanted for dinner and I was really impressed with their choices. Kaity fixed Bagel Bites and along with hers she chose cottage cheese and kiwi. Along with his, Joe had grapes and yogurt and tried the kiwi. They both drank orange juice. Ah, sweet progress. I had Simple Veggie Orzo.
